Hello everyone! It's been awhile, again, since I've been here. Time just seems to get away from me. And life has been distracting this month. But I'm here now!

Today I discovered I have been bested by a 4 year old for weeks now! My grandson, Jonathan, had me & his Mom believing he just wasn't catching on to his ABC's. We diligently kept working with him using the curriculim I put together, but it seemed he was still struggling to identify letters. Here he is working away...

Well, today he was playing a game on PBS kids & to my amazement he picked the correct letter at least 95% of the time! Needless to say, Mommy & Gramma have decided an official K4 school year is finally upon us!

Rather than design the curriculum ourselves my daughter & I decided to go with a program my youngest daughter shared with us. It looks fantastic, is definitely affordable on a single mom's budget & a great deal of the worksheets & games can be easily modified for my daughter to use! Yay!!

Hello Everyone! Today I want to talk a little about learning to adjust our meals & snacks for my 2yo granddaughter, Hannah. (She is the other adorable blonde in the collage)
Hannah has a dairy intolerance, so we have had to change a lot of our thinking when it comes to meals & snacks when she's here. It is unbelievable how much stuff milk is in that you would never have guessed!

One of the biggest changes has been finding milk alternatives for her. After doing much research we decided not to go with soy products, just our personal choice. So we use a lot of almond milk, cashew milk or coconut milk. Hannah seems to prefer almond milk. We are also always on the lookout for good dairy free products such as yogurt & ice cream.The one thing we just don't buy or cook with when she is here is cheese. Why? Because in our opinions it is just plain gross!

Trying to find these types of products sent me into sticker shock! And it gave me a whole new respect & empathy for families dealing with food sensitivities/allergies! It has also driven me to get creative with my cooking & baking. A few days ago I made a yummy frozen treat for all the grandkids to enjoy after an evening swim---banana peanut butter bars. And they loved them!



RECIPE
3 frozen bananas
1/3 cup peanut butter(we use all natural, butter free)
2 tbls honey
Almond milk as needed for consistency

Blend these ingredients together til thick & creamy. Pour in popsicle molds & freeze.
Makes 8

ABC Unit Study-PreK...Let's do this!

My 1st big project I want to share here is the creation of a school routine for my grandson, Jonathan. (He's the adorable 4yo blonde in the picture collage by the way.)

Kandie has always wanted to homeschool her children & we fully support her in this decision. I, myself, homeschooled my youngest daughter, Whitney, from 6th grade on. We were blessed to have her excel & graduate at the age of 16, so homeschooling does work! As I mentioned, Kandie is a new single mom & being frugal is a must! So I'm putting together a curriculum that is free & can be used by us both. All alphabet fill in projects will be her lesson time with Jonathan. I simply go over the letter shape with glue so she can feel it, a trick I learned when she was young. She can then help him fill in the letters with yarn, cotton balls, buttons...the choices are endless. Counting can also be part of this fun project. So she is getting art, abc's & counting all in one lesson...Awesome!
This program is designed to be a summer program to get Jonathan ready for a full preschool program in the fall.

Kandie likes twin vision books for reading to the kids. These are awesome books with braille put right on the pages so the kids can follow along when she reads & still enjoy the fun pictures they love.

Hi all! Welcome to the Gramma Life! I'm a wife, mom(of 3) & gramma(of 7) who loves her family & will always be there for them. After 6 years of all my kids being out on their own & enjoying the freedom I now had, life has thrown us a new challenge.

My oldest daughter, Kandie, & her 2 kids are now living with us as she tries to navigate life as a single mom. Not only is Kandie a single mom, she is a blind single mom. Kandie was born blind & was raised to believe in herself & be a strong, capable, & independent woman.

As life tends to do, we have been thrown a curve ball. So here we all are, trying to navigate this new chapter in our lives...Trying to live together as peacefully as possible in a small, three bedroom home & meet all the challenges thrown our way.

Which is why I'm here starting this blog, a challenge all its own as I have never blogged before!

My hope is that this blog will help me by giving me a creative outlet & help others by sharing my challenges, experiences & solutions as I navigate this new chapter in my life.

Some things that will be shared here are homeschooling thoughts & ideas & the struggles we face trying to help Kandie homeschool 2 lively kids who are sighted, struggles & funny moments in our daily lives, the joy of being a mom & gramma,  fun & healthy recipes & anything else I feel like sharing.
